About Shiloh Shepherds
Shiloh Shepherds are a large, family-oriented shepherd that have been around since the early ’90s.
They’re often described as being “easy for a shepherd,” and well-bred Shilohs are active companions and family guardians.
Reputable breeders are science-forward and do extensive health-testing and DNA analysis of their dogs. Shiloh Shepherds are an OFA-CHIC breed, and they have over 1000 individuals listed in OFA and PennHIP respectively.
For conformation, they show in breed-specific specialties, IABCA, ICKC, ABIDS, and ARBA.
They are also a breed listed by sporting associations such as NADAC, NASDA, Toss & Fetch League, UpDog, USCSS, SDDA, and CWAGS (just to name a few!)
Shiloh Shepherd History
All Shiloh Shepherds descend from about 20 dogs from their kennel of origin, “Shiloh Kennels.”
Most of these dogs were German Shepherds, and a handful of carefully vetted outcrosses were added to breed away from certain health issues.
The breed officially split off from the AKC in 1991.
